About Danny

About Danny:

As a shy, introverted kid, I never would have expected to have a career in theater. Well, it should come as that big of a surprise, because I loved nothing more than playing pretend (and bossing my cousins around in our various different “productions”). When I finally built up the courage to allow my mom to sign me up for a show, I was hooked. Throughout high school at Walnut Hill School for the Arts, I discovered that my passion for theater extended beyond performing. Therefore, throughout college at the Boston Conservatory at Berklee, I focused on directing, a perfect way to meld my love for telling stories, coaching actors, and collaborating with designers.

My life has taken me in a variety of directions—including going to law school to study entertainment law—theater remains my first love, and I am deeply passionate about sharing my skills and experiences with the next generation of theater artists.

About Danny’s Work:

As a director, I believe that the best theater is one where collaboration and storytelling are central to the work and that a positive and uplifting rehearsal room is much more conducive to that work than one of hostility and uneasiness. I am a proud associate member of the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society, a national labor union representing stage directors and choreographers.

As an educator who teaches acting, musical theatre performance, and self-marketing and performing arts business/arts administration, I believe that everyone has the ability to tell stories, and a teacher’s job is to help actors find their facility. Importantly, I believe that all students can find success, and the key is finding the right niche. Therefore, my teaching style is student-focused and specifically tailored to each individual student’s needs. I have been teaching for decades, working with grade school, college, and professional actors. His students can be seen on Broadway, Off-Broadway, and in regional theaters across the country, including The Vineyard Theater, North Shore Music Theatre, Theatre by the Sea, Maine State Music Theatre, and The Muny, and TV shows, such as Law and Order: Special Victims Unit.

As a scholar, I research in three areas: (1) the intersection of the law and creativity, and how we need to modernize our understanding of both to respond to the ever-changing theater industry; (2) the evolution of the musical theatre canon, how the craft of performance must be responsive to the maturation of the form, and the reimagining of classical works for a contemporary audience; and (3) best practices in acting and musical theatre pedagogy the marries the need for compelling performances with the necessity of protecting performer’s mental wellbeing.

As a leader, I bring a unique skill set to the table: over a decade of experience in leading arts organizations, deep knowledge of the needs of higher education arts programs, and a legal degree with a focus on entertainment law. I harmonize these skills to provide cutting-edge leadership that centers the arts to advance strategic and growth goals, while also recognizing the deep transferable skills and experiences that exposure to the arts provides.
